What is FRC? It’s Opportunity!
For YOUTH - FIRST® provides youth from all over many opportunities to broaden their knowledge and explore the world of science and technology. FIRST® Robotics offers individuals experiences through a mentor-based program to explore building, programming, and design. Through these opportunities youth gain confidence, leadership skills, and a sense of pride as they work in teams to accomplish their goals. Scholarships are also available to all youth participating in FIRST. To learn about these opportunities and more visit USFIRST.ORG.
For PARENTS and PROFESSIONALS – Serving as a mentor for an FRC team can be some of the hardest fun you’ll ever have! Not only do professionals meet up with other professionals in the community through FRC mentorships, but, the truth is, they find there are things that can still be learned from working with youth. Exposure to new technology, hands-on skill development, and professional writing and presentation skills are all qualities that can be developed through involvement in FRC and can be added to a professional resume. Parents volunteering for the team find that they have a common activity they can share in with their teenager. Looking for an opportunity to help enrich the youth of the community while also improving yourself? Become an FRC mentor!
For COMMUNITY INVOLVEMENT – Finding the best employee for your small business can be a difficult thing. But imagine working side by side with that potential employee for 6 straight weeks on an intensive project and knowing their work ethic, their dedication, and their technical aptitude before ever scheduling the first interview. Imagine a new non-profit organization that is dedicated to teaching community members about science, technology, engineering, and math – and that could be a perfect fit for your charitable donation this year. Imagine having an organization made up of youth with technical know-how and who are willing to pass along their knowledge and enthusiasm to younger kids. Now, imagine a group of diverse individuals coming together for a common good. That’s FRC and that’s how communities can be involved in FIRST® Robotics. In fact, communities ARE FIRST® Robotics.
